Today the American Bar Association is kicking off their 17th Annual American Bar Association Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Conference. The conference is being held at the majestic Mandarin Oriental hotel, located in SW Washington, DC.

Tomorrow, a high-profile member of congress is scheduled to give his impressions on the topsy-turby industry. Rep. Barney Frank, who is sponsor of the recently proposed American Housing Rescue and Foreclosure Prevention Act (HR 3221), will speak before the morning plenary. HR 3221 is aimed to stabilize the housing market and prevent thousands of Americans from losing their homes to foreclosure. Frank has been viewed as a strong supporter of HUD and their connections with low-income families that are looking to move up.

Another speaker is U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Deputy General Counsel John J. Daly and lastly respected Harvard University professor Charles Ogletree, director of the university’s Criminal Justice Institute.

The ABA hopes to cover a variety of pressing housing issues that are at the forefront of the ongoing economic downturn.
