Speaker: Ambassador Mark P. Lagon, U.S. Department  of State

About the Speaker:  Ambassador Mark P. Lagon is  Senior Advisor to the secretary of State and  Director of the Office to Monitor and Combat rafficking in Persons at the State Department.  His office coordinates U.S. Government activities  in the global fight against modern-day slavery,  including forced labor and sexual exploitation. From 2004 to 2007, Ambassador Lagon served as  Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for nternational Organization Affairs, and from  2002-2004 was a member of the Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff. From 1999 to 2002, he as a senior staff member on the Republican staff  of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Before working on Capitol Hill, Ambassador Lagon erved as the principal aide to the Director of Foreign Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute, Dr. Jeane Kirkpatrick. He is the uthor of The Reagan Doctrine: Sources of American Conduct in the Cold War’s Last Chapter. He received  his Ph.D. from Georgetown University.
