MHz is the shortened form of the word megahertz. It is important to understand the meaning of hertz to understand MHz. The term hertz is named for Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, who contributed significantly to the study of electromagnetism. Units within the International System of Units should always be capitalized if named after a person. When spelled out fully, the word should not be capitalized. That’s why the abbreviations are Hz or MHz but the terms are written out as hertz or megahertz.

MHz is also commonly known as the widely successful independent, noncommercial television broadcasting entity.  MHz Networks is the name if the company.  MHz deliver international, educational and arts programming and providing diverse cultural perspectives for a globally-minded audience.

With eight local broadcast channels, MHz Networks serves the Washington, DC’s 512,000 residents and 3.7 million suburbanites in Virginia and Maryland.  Also the station reaches over 15 million households through affiliates via broadcast, cable and satellite.  MHz Networks features programs from around the world on-air in more than 20 different languages. MHz Networks flagship channel, MHz Worldview, brings programming to globally-minded audiences in the US through affiliates, including cable, satellite and online.

During the APTS Capitol Hill Day 2008 Conference, being held at the Ritz-Carlton in DC’s West End Neighbourhood, MHz underwrote a fabulous reception honouring MHz Worldview.

A division of Commonwealth Public Broadcasting Corporation headquartered in Richmond, VA, MHz Networks is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. MHz has studio facilities in Falls Church, VA and at Washington, DC’s Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
